During a recent campaign luncheon, President Obama falsely claimed:
“The issue here is not going be a list of accomplishments. As you said yourself, Steve, you know, I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president – with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln – just in terms of what we’ve gotten done in modern history. But, you know, but when it comes to the economy, we’ve got a lot more work to do.”
Similarly, a few days ago, liberal propagandist David Ignatius claimed in the Washington Compost that “… foreign policy may be President Obama’s strongest suit as he campaigns next year.”
What legislative and foreign policy achievements were you talking about, Mr Obama?
I know that you’ve managed to get socialized medicine passed by an aberrationally large one-party majority in Congress, strictly along party lines, and more recently, a CR that didn’t cut spending and a debt ceiling deal that gave you more of taxpayers’ money to waste, to be paid for by massacrous cuts to the defense budget and large cuts to the Medicare program.
But Mr President, ramming socialized medicine (which is ruinous) down the throats of a resisting electorate, prolonging the status quo in Washington with CRs and debt ceiling hikes, and gutting America’s defense with disastrous budget cuts hardly counts as accomplishments.
Let us now turn to foreign affairs. What foreign policy accomplishments were you referring to, Mr Obama?
Might it have been the disastrous New START treaty, which forces the US to make unilateral and deep cuts in its nuclear arsenal while allowing Russia to add weapons and putting onerous limits on missile defense?
Was it your unilateral surrender of Bush Administration missile defense plans, for which Russia has rewarded you with nothing but further demands and threats not heard from the Kremlin since the coldest days of the Cold War (excepting occassional ramblings by Putin)?
Was it your policy of appeasement towards Iran, for which the Iranians have rewarded you with nothing but scorn and accelerated development of nuclear weapons?
Was it your failure to respond to the sinking of the Cheonan and and the shelling of South Korean villages by the North Koreans?
Or was it your policy of kowtowing to China and your refusal to sell the people of Taiwan the tools they need to defend themselves?
